| Trailblazers in more detail? The YMCA Trailblazers program is a continuation for older children of the YMCA Y-Adventure Guide program, formerly known as the Y-Indian Program.. Y-Trailblazers offers children fourth through sixth grades, more challenging and varied experiences, while teaching leadership and responsibility. Parent / child pairs will be placed in small groups called Clubs based upon sex, grade, school, geographic area, and / or special requests. Clubs will meet once a month in a member's home, where the kids will assume the planning, organization and operation of the Club meetings. Parents will assist in training their children to lead the Club and ensure the Club's overall success. Club meetings will consist of planning Club events, setting Club goals, collecting Club dues for outings and activities, and discussing service projects for their community. Service to the community and the YMCA is an important aspect of the Y-Trailblazer program. Once a month, the Y-Trailblazer Council will host an event for all Clubs, such as rock climbing, tree planting, bike rides, campouts and water rafting trips. Through all of these activities and events, Y-Trailblazers help strengthen the family and foster the relationship between parent and child. |
